For pet care professionals, tips are part of the job — and a meaningful one. Groomers, bathers, and other specialists often rely on tips for 10–30% of their total take-home pay.

But there’s always been a gap in how tips get collected. When a pet parent pays an estimate before their visit, or settles an open invoice after pickup, there was no way to tip inside Gingr. Some businesses were routing those payments through outside tools just to keep tipping intact. Others were simply missing out.

Today, that changes. Starting July 21, Gingr adds tip prompts to estimate and invoice payments in the Pet Parent Portal — so every online payment type now includes the option to tip.

HOW IT WORKS

The update is built into your existing integrated payments setup — no new integrations, no new tools. Here’s what happens:

  • Enable in admin settings. Tip percentages automatically pull from your existing Tip Amounts configuration. You can also allow custom amounts.

  • Pet parents see a tip prompt when paying an estimate (before or during their visit) or an open invoice (after pickup) through the Pet Parent Portal.

  • The tip options match what they’d see at checkout — same percentages, same custom entry, same familiar flow.

  • Tip allotment and splitting work the same way they already do. Nothing about your existing tip workflows changes.

WHY THIS MATTERS FOR YOUR TEAM

60%+ of pet parents tip when given the option. Every estimate and invoice payment was missing that opportunity — which means your staff was missing tips on a significant share of visits.

This isn’t about changing how tips work. It’s about making sure tips are available on every payment type, not just in-person checkout. Your base service prices stay the same. Your pet parents’ experience is nearly identical. The only difference is that your staff earns more on the same visits.

For businesses with high volumes of advance bookings, boarding, or recurring clients, the impact compounds quickly.

NO MORE WORKAROUNDS

Some businesses have been sending clients to a separate payment link or outside tool just to capture tips on advance payments. That creates reconciliation headaches, splits your reporting, and adds friction for your staff.

With this update, everything stays in Gingr. Payments, tips, Tip Reports, and payroll allotments — one system, one source of truth.

GETTING STARTED

Tipping on estimates and invoices is available to all integrated payments customers starting July 21. To enable it, log into your admin settings, navigate to the Credit Card Processing page, and confirm your configurations in the Tip Amounts field. The tip prompt will begin appearing in the Pet Parent Portal payment flow automatically.

NOT ON GINGR PAYMENTS? HERE'S WHAT YOU'RE MISSING BEYOND TIPS

Tipping on estimates and invoices is available exclusively through Gingr Payments — but it's far from the only reason to make the switch.

Built-in Credit Card Surcharging. Gingr Payments now includes automated surcharging, which lets you recover up to 3% of credit card processing fees by passing them to the cardholder at checkout. For a business processing $500K in annual card volume, that's up to $15,000 back per year — without raising your prices. Tipping and surcharging together mean more revenue for your staff and more margin for your business, on the same transactions.

One platform for payments, tips, and reporting. With a separate payment processor, you're reconciling across systems, managing multiple support relationships, and piecing together data from different places. Gingr Payments keeps everything in one place — payment processing, tip collection, Tip Reports, surcharge tracking, and net revenue reporting — all in the same dashboard you already use to run your business.

Full payment coverage across every channel. Gingr Payments processes in-store terminal transactions, online payments, Pet Parent Portal payments, deposits, and recurring memberships and subscriptions — all in one system. Tips and surcharges apply automatically across every channel, so nothing falls through the cracks.

One support team. When something goes wrong with a payment, you shouldn't have to figure out whether to call your software provider or your payment processor. With Gingr Payments, there's one team for everything.

If you're running payments through a separate processor, you're leaving tips, margin recovery, and operational simplicity on the table. Tipping Enhancements are a good reason to take another look.

Frequently Asked Questions:

General

WHAT ARE GINGR TIPPING ENHANCEMENTS?

Starting July 21, 2026, pet parents can add a tip when paying an estimate before a visit, or settling an open invoice after pickup, through the Pet Parent Portal. This extends tipping to every online payment type — not just in-person checkout.

IS THIS A NEW TIPPING SYSTEM?

No. The update adds new entry points for tipping (estimate and invoice payments), but does not change how tips work. Your existing tip percentages, allotment rules, split configurations, and Tip Report all remain exactly the same.

IS THIS REQUIRED?

No. Tipping enhancements are opt-in. You can enable or disable them at any time in your admin settings.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

This feature is available to all Gingr Payments customers and CardConnect customers. It requires that tipping is enabled in your admin settings.

IS THERE AN EXTRA FEE?

No. Tipping Enhancements are available to all Gingr businesses using integrated payments.

Setup and Configuration

HOW DO I ENABLE IT?

Navigate to the Credit Card Processing admin page and confirm your tip percentage configurations in the Tip Amounts field. Once enabled, the tip prompt will appear automatically in the Pet Parent Portal estimate and invoice payment flows.

WHAT TIP PERCENTAGES WILL PET PARENTS SEE?

The same percentages you have configured in your existing Tip Amounts settings. You can update these at any time, and changes take effect immediately.

CAN PET PARENTS ENTER A CUSTOM TIP AMOUNT?

Yes, if you allow custom amounts in your Tip Amounts configuration.

WHO CAN ENABLE THIS FEATURE?

Users with Admin permissions in the Gingr Business Portal.

How It Works

WHICH PAYMENTS NOW INCLUDE A TIP PROMPT?

Estimate payments (when a pet parent pays in advance before or during their visit) and open invoice payments (when a pet parent settles their balance online after pickup) through the Pet Parent Portal.

WHAT DOES THE PET PARENT EXPERIENCE LOOK LIKE?

Pet parents see a tip prompt during the payment flow — the same percentage options and custom amount entry they’d see at in-person checkout. They confirm the total, including any tip, before payment processes.

DOES THIS AFFECT TERMINAL OR IN-PERSON CHECKOUT TIPPING?

No. In-person and terminal tipping are unchanged. Tipping Enhancements only add tip prompts to the online estimate and invoice payment flows.

DO MY EXISTING TIP ALLOTMENT AND SPLITTING RULES APPLY?

Yes. Tips collected through estimate and invoice payments follow the same allotment and splitting rules you’ve already configured.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I ISSUE A REFUND ON AN ESTIMATE OR INVOICE WITH A TIP?

The tip is refunded only if the tip line item(s) are refunded from the invoice. Refunded tips can be found in the Tip Refunds section of the Tips Report.

Staff and Compensation

WILL THIS AFFECT MY STAFF'S TIP REPORT OR PAYROLL?

Only positively. Additional tips collected through estimate and invoice payments will appear in the Tip Report and flow into your existing allotment process. No new configuration is required.

DO I NEED TO NOTIFY STAFF ABOUT THIS CHANGE?

We recommend a brief heads-up so your team knows tips are now available on more payment types — and that pet parents completing advance or online payments will have the option to tip. CS has talking points available on request.

Customer Experience

WILL THIS CONFUSE MY PET PARENTS?

The tip prompt in the estimate and invoice payment flows matches the in-person checkout experience. Most pet parents will recognize it immediately.

CAN PET PARENTS SKIP THE TIP?

Yes. Tipping is always optional. Pet parents can select $0 or bypass the tip prompt entirely.
