When Meaghan Summerbell and their co-owner, Emma, decided to take a leap of faith and open Urban Pawsibilities, they had one goal in mind: to create a safe space for dogs that other facilities might turn away. The two close friends, who met while working at a boarding facility, quickly bonded over their shared passion for training. After going separate ways to build their own training businesses, a few conversations sparked the idea of something bigger. In May 2021—right in the middle of the pandemic—they opened Urban Pawsibilities, the largest dog training facility in the Portland Metro area.

Their facility specializes in working with reactive and aggressive dogs, offering daytime training through their School for Dogs program, private lessons, and group classes seven days a week. For Meaghan, the best part of the job is helping pet parents see their dogs in a new light. They share that: “Helping people see their dogs differently, aiding them in meeting their dog’s needs, and understanding that all dogs are smart and capable of learning” is what fuels their passion every day.

Running a facility like Urban Pawsibilities requires more than just expertise in dog behavior—it demands organization and efficiency.
