Eight miles east of Billings, Montana—surrounded by the stillness of open land and big skies—you’ll find a custom-built barn where dogs are treated like royalty, cats nap in cozy condos, and even horses can rest their hooves. Welcome to Dogbarn, a passion project turned reality from long-time trucker turned pet-care pro, Kevin Kremers.
“I was a truck driver for a long time. Three million miles, to be exact,” said Kevin. “I desperately needed a change, and the idea of a dog boarding facility was always in the back of my mind.”
That idea found traction in the winter of 2019, when Kevin and his wife stumbled upon a piece of land just outside Billings. “It checked all the boxes—and get this—there was an abandoned dog kennel from the ‘80s on it. That was a sign.”
Fast-forward to July 2023: Dogbarn officially opened its doors. The Kremers designed and built a barn specifically for dog boarding, complete with 20 kennels in four sizes, four cat condos, and even space for five horses to board short term. There’s also a snug Airbnb cabin on-site for two-legged guests.
Despite having no employees (yet!), Kevin runs the show like a seasoned pro. “I’ve always been self-employed,” he said. “I have a saying: I’d rather work 12 for me than 8 for someone else. And after all those years on the road, I love hardly ever leaving my property.”
At first, Kevin thought Dogbarn could operate the old-school way—with pen and paper. That lasted about five minutes. “No way. Dogbarn’s not a complicated business, but Gingr covers every base we’d ever need,” he said.
Now, Gingr is the invisible engine behind every smooth check-in and happy customer. “It’s there every day. Every reservation. Every dog. Every customer. My mind forgets stuff. Even a pen and paper forgets stuff. If it gets to Gingr, it will not get forgotten.”
Dogbarn may be small in staff, but it's big on organization. Kevin’s favorite Gingr feature? The Revenue by Date Report. “I like numbers, and it tells me what I need to know. When you’re running solo, that kind of visibility is gold.”
Dogbarn opens its doors at 7:00 a.m. sharp—but Kevin jokes, “I’d be lost by 7:05 without Gingr.”
